It has been almost two decades since condition reports on All Saints highlighted the need to carry out repairs to the historic dome at the centre of the church building. Among the challenges, given its inaccessibility, was that we didn’t fully comprehend the scale of the works required until scaffold was erected, from floor to ceiling, and we could get up close to the fabric. It was with no small amount of trepidation that we embarked on a scheme of works that, potentially, could hit the roof, so to speak!
Nevertheless, we have been immensely fortunate. When we engaged C.E.L Group (1989) Ltd they came with a respected name and a track record of high-quality work. What they have accomplished here can only enhance their reputation. The challenge of working and conserving a Grade 1 listed building, while a busy and active worshipping community continued around them, was effortlessly executed. Their versatility in working with our architect to adapt the scheme of works as new surveys became possible and as redecoration took place, has made a highly significant impact on the result. Moreover, we thoroughly enjoyed working with Phil, Paul and their highly professional team of builders and conservators. We were rather sorry when the project wrapped and the time came to wave them good-bye.
We are as delighted with the finished works as we are with the journey toward completing them. We very much hope to engage them again as we continue to care for one of Northampton’s most iconic buildings.

From the first point of contact, CEL staff were very professional, helpful and knowledgeable about the restoration of the South Chapel in Soham Cemetery. The workmanship was of a very high standard and quality, and we found all the staff very helpful in answering our questions as they arose during the restoration. CEL kept us informed of progress at all times and also allowed us to visit the site and physically check on the progress of the project whenever we wanted to.
